Over the past few months, like many around the world, I have become a big fan of Barack Obama. On seeing Cameron Moll's beautiful letterpress posters, I was inspired to design something similar. However, I aimed for more of a rugged, worn out, traditional letterpress feel.
The poster itself consists of characters from MrsEaves, Bickam Script Pro, Adobe Garamond and the Trajan font families. Instead of using a random set of characters, I decided to embed something meaningful, like important figures, dates, milestones, words and phrases associated with President Obama within the artwork.
Each poster measures 14" by 20" and is printed on handmade cotton paper by a good old platen letterpress machine - one of the very few left in Chennai which can handle this big a poster. Due to the handmade nature of the paper, each poster is printed uniquely with varying intensity of the black ink on different parts of the paper.
I am putting up what started off as a purely personal piece of artwork - for sale here at US$50, which includes shipping charges too!
