Commenting for the sake of it

Amongst all the final tributes to Steve Irwin, Germaine Greer’s comments on this particular article greatly irritated me for its shallowness and utter absense of logic.

What? Steve Irwin “intruded on the habitats of animals and treated them with massive insensitivity”? As far as I am concerned, humans have never had much concern for animals, unless they were their pets or were served as a delicacy. It is people like Steve who actually love and understand the animals.

The purpose of programs like the Crocodile Hunter is not to scare the audience by showing that the “world is full of wicked, nasty, powerful, deadly creatures.” It is quite the opposite. They show us the real nature and wonder of wildlife. Steve Irwin is no more insensitive to the animals than Germaine Greer, the author, is to the trees.

It was indeed very sad to learn of Steve’s tragic end. Rest in peace, Steve Irwin.

It is our choices that show who we truly are, far more than our abilities. Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

Australia is absolutely dumbfounded and in quite a lot of shock at the moment. When we first heard it on Monday afternoon we thought that everyone was joking until we checked it out on the net. The TV tributes by all TV stations have been playing all week – he was Australia’s greatest ambassador. May he RIP.

Ah, even I was shocked to hear the news. You haven’t updated in a while. Been busy?

You know… Dumbledore’s words are one of my favorite quotes from the whole story.

The sudden death of Steve Irwin was really sad and the other day, the family and staff at Steve’s zoo held a public memorial for him.
His little daughter Bindi, spoke about her father with wisdom far beyond her 8 years of age!
Bindi surely has Steve’s spirit and will continue where Steve left off.
RIP Steve Irwin
